All is not lost for Team USA.
After a number of star players dropped out of this summer's Olympic games, Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant has stated his intent to play in Rio this August, ESPN's Royce Young reports.
Durant's decision to play is somewhat surprising, as he's set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer - a reason that has prompted many players to skip out on international tournaments in the past.
However, given the team's potential lack of star power, Durant could be leaned on as a leader for a potentially young, but talented U.S. squad.
Durant set the record for the most points scored in an Olympic basketball tournament during the 2012 Summer games in London, averaging 19.5 points to lead the United States to their second straight gold medal.
Steph Curry, Anthony Davis, Blake Griffin, and LaMarcus Aldridge will all reportedly skip out on the tournament this summer.
