Celtics extend Ainge, Stevens
Coming off their highest win total since 2010-11, the Boston Celtics have opted to extend the contracts of head coach Brad Stevens and president of basketball operations Danny Ainge. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Stevens - who had three years remaining on his six-year contract - finished sixth in Coach of the Year voting in 2015-16 after taking the Celtics to a fifth-placed finish in the East.
Ainge has long had the support of Celtics management since taking over as the Executive Director of Basketball Operations in 2003. The 57-year-old already has one championship and two Finals appearances to his name, and has put Boston in excellent position to become a contender in the near future, thanks to a combination of cheap contracts and high draft picks.
"Once you find your people," Celtics managing partner and CEO Wyc Grousbeck said Wednesday. "You need to support them in their efforts and create a work environment that enables them and the team to succeed. If all of that is in place, the topic of extending contracts becomes an easy one, because everybody wants to keep moving forward together."
